General Discussion / Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone in the USA!

For those of you in other countries, this is the Holiday that our whole Nation thanks God Almighty and His Risen Son Jesus Christ for the many blessings He gives us, and for our Freedom from British tyranny over 200 years ago.

Wow!  Tampa has an outdoor ice skating rink under a tent in the new park area of the downtown area.  Quoting from the newspaper article...

TAMPA — The white tent sits between rows of palm trees at Waterfront Park. Inside, silver snowflakes dangle from the peaked ceiling, and glittery reindeer give off the illusion of winter. The temperature drops.

"An outdoor ice skating rink in Florida?" said Jennifer Edmister, a Brandon mother. "We were curious."

Edmister and her family warmed up the ice Friday at the opening of Tampa's first outdoor skating rink.

The rink will stay open through the holiday season, defying the warm weather and offering a taste of chillier climates.

Admission is $10 per person for skate rental and 90 minutes of skating. On weekdays, the rink will offer a $13 lunchtime special that includes 30 minutes of skating, skate rental and a box lunch.

The rink will be closed Nov. 25 for Thanksgiving. It will open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Christmas Eve and 4 to 10 p.m. on Christmas Day.

I went to support the Paralyzed Veterans of America at this event and we had a great time!  My scramble team came in First Place Low Net and we walked away with a nice trophy!

Innisbrook has at least 5 golf courses in their facility and it's surrounded by some fabulous homes and condos, so it would be a great place to spend your luxury retirement years.

Tampa Bay Entertainment and Attractions / The Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary
« on: September 05, 2010, 08:39:34 PM »
We visited The Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary recently and if you like seabirds, then you should visit also!  Admission is FREE, but they need donations to feed and care for all of the birds they rescue.  The Gulf of Mexico oil spill has really kept them busy this Summer.

Speaking of the Gulf of Mexico, if you're walking the beach in Indian Shores, then you can enter the Sanctuary from the beach.  The main entrance sits at 18328 Gulf Boulevard, Indian Shores, Fl 33785 727-391-6211 or 727-391-2473.

The non-profit Seabird Sanctuary is the largest wild bird hospital in the USA based on the 8,000 birds that they help annually. They
saved so many oily birds from death this Summer, that their efforts should be applauded by everyone who loves birds.  A lot of the cleaned and rehabilitated birds from the oil spill region were released right here in Tampa Bay.

Here's a quote of statistics from their website...

OUR BIRDS . . . By the Numbers

600     Pounds of fish to feed our birds per day
20-45     Birds rescued or admitted per day
38     Years as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit seabird sanctuary

34     Workers on staff needed to treat all the birds
8,000     Up to 8,000 birds admitted each year
85-90     Percent of injuries birds suffer from humans

16,000+    Number of international sanctuary members
$1,000,000    Annual sanctuary dollars needed to save the birds

View their website below for more information like their address.  They are open every day of the year.
