Tampa Bay Entertainment and Attractions / Re: Downtown Tampa's new ice rink
« on: September 28, 2011, 07:37:22 PM »
They're getting the ice rink ready to put up again in November 2011, so get your ice skates sharpened!  I grew up on ice skates playing hockey in Ohio, so you definitely need sharp edges on those blades, unless you like falling down a lot!  LOL!   :D

It's time for this event again!  The dates for 2011 are the weekend of Sept. 30th to Oct. 2nd.  Everything happens on the water in front of Pier 60 at Clearwater Beach, so get your tickets and have some fun.  The website has all of the details for you.

Restaurants and Reviews / Re: Mom's Place in Tampa

Yesterday we went to Mom's Place in Tampa again!  We go there every few months and it's always a great meal.  We were celebrating our 3rd Wedding Anniversary, so we went there at lunchtime.  We've been going there 6 years now and most of the waitresses still work there.  The owner is always there too!

Mom's Place is always crowded, so we had to wait about 10 minutes for a table to open up.  You can't beat the good food and the fast service.  Of course, I had breakfast for lunch and my wife had a lunch entree and our bill was under $15.  We love it, so check it out!

Today we went to J. Alexander's Restaurant near Cypress and Dale Mabry in Tampa for my wife's birthday!

We went for lunch after church and we splurged on a meal for once.  It was a special occasion that only comes once a year, so definitely check it out when you have an occasion like that.  We really enjoyed it and the food and service was excellent!

Restaurants and Reviews / Outback Steakhouse

Last Friday night we went to Outback Steakhouse again!  I should have posted it here earlier because we have gone to 3 different locations several times each.  My wife simply loves the Prime Rib and I have ordered something different each time.  It's been great every time.

On Friday, we went their for my brother-in-law's birthday.  He thought we were just going to be there as a table of 4, but his kids and relatives plus a co-worker were there to surprise him with balloons on his chair and everything.  There were 13 of us at the table and he had a fantastic time.  The waiters even sang him their goofy birthday song.

We went to Carmelita's again this week, only this time it was for lunch.  The portions are smaller, but so are the prices, so we weren't as full afterwards!  LOL!  Carmelita's is still our favorite Latino restaurant.

We went back to Landers Steakhouse last Friday night and this time we had the "Surf & Turf" dinner for two.  It included an appetizer to share, salads, two entrees, a side dish each, plus a slice of New York cheesecake each, all for $30.00!  We were so full we were ready to burst afterwards.  LOL!

Can anyone tell me what the scene is like at the Serveuse Sexy Restaurants? The last time I went to those places, the waitresses were scantily dress sometimes topless I understand that they are now nude, can anyone verify this?

Dude, if you Google "Serveuse Sexy Restaurant" the restaurant that comes up is in Montreal, Canada and the language is French.  This message board is about the Tampa Bay Area of Florida in the United States of America!  Montreal is nearly 2,000 miles away and the restaurant is in another country, so get a passport and consult a map before you go there.  LOL!

We have been to Landers Steakhouse on N. Dale Mabry Highway several times and we really enjoyed it!  Last time we were there, we had a dinner for two special.  We had an appetizer to share, salads, two entrees, a side dish each, plus a slice of New York cheesecake each, all for $20.00!  It was awesome and we're going to return and do it again sometime soon!  Our friends had steak and a baked potato plus salad and rolls and they enjoyed it also.

We've been there several times since the post above, and we went there again tonight.  We had the adult beverages before we arrived at 7pm and we only had to wait about 20 minutes before we were seated.

I had their advertised special, soup, salad, an entre, a side dish and dessert, all for only $15!  My wife had an appetizer and with two Cokes, our bill was less than $30!  Simply Awesome!

Go check them out!

Restaurants and Reviews / Ruth's Chris Steakhouse on Westshore
« on: May 12, 2011, 11:42:33 PM »
I finally had the opportunity to have dinner at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse on Westshore Blvd. in Tampa last Saturday night.  The meal was fabulous and I ate every bite. but for me it was too expensive.  I was there to celebrate a college graduation of a friend and I was happy to be there, but I wasn't prepared to spend $70 on myself, including the 20% tip.

I chose the $40 meal that included appetizer, meal and dessert, and I had two glasses of inexpensive Zinfadel wine.  But the wine only filled my glass by 1/3!  I found that to be a bit odd, but as I looked around the room, perhaps the wine glasses were a bit too big.  My portion would have filled a much smaller glass nicely.

Other than the small amount of wine, my meal was perfect and you can see what I had in the photos below.  I understand that prime steak houses that offer steak still sizzling on the plate cost more than normal, but I still thing their prices are a bit high for the common man.  I guess they have to charge more in order to pay all of the extra employees near the front and the DJ/musician who played music in the bar area, and the valet parking attendants.

Restaurants and Reviews / Re: Winghouse
« on: May 04, 2011, 06:29:05 PM »
Wow, look at that... It's been exactly a year since I posted the Winghouse message.

My wife and I went to Winghouse again last night for a couple drinks, 20 wings, curly fries and some celery sticks.  The NBA playoffs were on TV and people were cheering for that.  The place was actually pretty busy, so you should check it out sometime.

We went to their new location on Rt. 60 near the intersection of US 19 and it looks very similar to their other locations.  Their decor is the same with lots of TVs on different channels and wooden tables and lots of sports memorabilia/photos hanging on the walls.  Plus portraits of Winghouse girls in bathing suits and of course the young Winghouse girls in their skimpy outfits waiting on us.

It was a lot of fun as usual!

Since we posted this message over a year ago, we have decided that Carmelita's is our absolutely favorite Latino food restaurant in the Tampa Bay area.  The service is great, the drinks and the food are superb and we especially like the house Margaritas and the house Sangria!  Whoo Hoo!

Carmelita's is open and airy, bright and cheery and they have several locations.  We have been there at least every month or every other month since I posted the first message in Feb. of 2010.  The only problem is that we have to travel at least 20-25 minutes across Tampa Bay to go there.

On the other hand, Miguel's Cafe is only 10 minutes down Kennedy Blvd. from where we live and we enjoy it, but the place is small and parking is limited.  The tables are too close together and it's dark in there, so we almost need a flash light to read the menu.  I don't like to sit right next to another table and hear their conversation and my 81 year old Father feels the same way, so all of us have preferred to meet at Carmelita's instead.

Secondly, I am fond of Chiles Rellenos and Miguel's must have gotten a new cook since the first time I had them there.  They just didn't taste the same and I want the same taste when I order them again.

I prefer the Chiles Rellenos at Carmelita's if you want my honest opinion.  They taste the exact same lovely flavor every time and that's how it should be if you order the same thing at each restaurant.  You expect to have the same enjoyable experience.  The really weird thing is that I hated stuffed peppers when I was younger, but Carmelita's stuffed peppers are simply awesome!

My family definitely prefers the brightly lit, open area of Carmelita's over Miguel's cramped and dim interior.  Like anyone else, we frequent the places we prefer.
