Day Trips, Weekends and More! / Universal Studios Orlando
« on: February 27, 2010, 05:15:27 PM »
Universal Studios is a great place to spend the day!

Get up early, drive about 90 minutes up I-4 and see and do a bunch of stuff related to movies produced by Universal Studios.  The rides and attractions are cool because of the movie themes.  Each year they emphasize a certain movie and this year it's Harry Potter, so if you like that film then you'll love this place.

Golf Courses and Discounts / Lansbrook Golf Club
« on: February 27, 2010, 12:33:07 PM »
We have played Lansbrook Golf Club several times a year for the last few years.  It's a great test of golf with some tight holes with trees on both sides, some wide open holes where a slice won't kill you, some short par 4s and some long ones too.  The greens putt true and they're usually fast.  Find more information on their website below.

Hotels and Motels / The Tahitian Inn in Tampa
« on: February 27, 2010, 12:20:15 PM »
Last night we went to the Tahitian Inn in Tampa with a group of friends for Club BIGGIE Nights Friday night party in their lounge.
(see message http://www.tampabaytourist.com/index.php?topic=79.0 for more info.)

The $10 all you can drink special from 10pm to Midnight was awesome and we had a great time chatting up our friends and others there at the bar.  The bartenders were very friendly and they even brought our drinks to our table, which doesn't happen much at other watering holes.  They earned their tips!

Some of our friends ordered food and the huge Cuban sandwiches looked authentic and I heard that they tasted great.  I wanted one, but we had already eaten before we arrived.

We met the couple that owns the hotel and they're great people!  They told us about some of their amenities like the heated pool, the spa and the jacuzzi suites.  They have re-built and remodeled the place and the facility is beautiful.  We had no clue that this was such a nice place, even though we live just 2 miles away.  I think we may have to go there and enjoy the jacuzzi suite sometime!  It would be the perfect place to celebrate a special occasion.

See their website below for their address and for more information.

Restaurants and Reviews / Fleming's Prime Steakhouse
« on: February 26, 2010, 08:51:28 PM »
If you like fine dining at top-of-the-line steak houses then you'll love Fleming's!  We went there two years ago without knowing anything about it other than it was close to home.  They had valet parking and we had to make reservations over the phone prior to arriving.

The waiter was terrific, the food was fabulous and the place was full of people... namely rich people.  That's their clientele and that's good for them but not for me.  I'm not a rich person, just a simple guy who doesn't need all of that wine and fancy stuff to be impressed.

In my opinion, the "mood lighting" was too dark for me.  I wanted a flashlight so I could read the menu.  I like to see what I'm eating also.  Speaking of the menu, it didn't have any prices and I think I remember having to order everything separately.  I guess if you have to know what the price is to determine if it fits within your budget, then you shouldn't go there.

When the bill arrived at the end of the meal for the 4 of us, I almost fell out of the booth.  I couldn't believe it was so high, almost $250 plus the tip on top of that!  Thank God my Dad picked-up the tab or I would have had to wash dishes for two weeks!  I felt bad for recommending the place to my Dad because I had no idea it cost that much.

If this sounds like your kind of place, then visit their website for more information.

The local news announced this week that the Norwegian Star will be offering week long cruises leaving from the Port of Tampa beginning in Oct. 2011.  They will offer cruises for only the 6 month winter season, unlike the year-round Carnival Cruises that leave from Tampa.

Oct. 2011 is a year and a half away, but that will give you time to make payments on your account to pay for it.  That's how we afforded to take the Carnival Cruises... we paid on it for several months leading up to the cut-off date.

See more information on their website below.

Day Trips, Weekends and More! / Take a Carnival Cruise from Tampa!
« on: February 24, 2010, 06:07:07 PM »
Carnival offers two ships that leave from the Port of Tampa and we have been on both of them!  The Inspiration and The Legend both leave and return to Tampa Bay.  The Cruise Terminal is right next to the Florida Aquarium, so you could see that on the day you come back also.

They bill themselves as the Fun Ships and it was so fun we went 3 years in a row in September.  September has the least expensive prices, but it's also peak Hurricane season, so that's probably why.  On our 2007 trip we went a week or two after a major hurricane tore up one of our ports, so that port had to be replaced with another.

Find all of the dates and more information at the Carnival website below.

Restaurants and Reviews / Red Lobster
« on: February 24, 2010, 05:43:22 PM »
Red Lobster is another national chain that we just love.  The garlic cheese biscuits served with your meal are awesome and so are their giant Margaritas!  I especially like to go there during Lobster Fest.

They have several Tampa Bay locations, so find a location near you at their website below.

Restaurants and Reviews / Olive Garden
« on: February 24, 2010, 05:38:44 PM »
We just love Olive Garden!  I like the Seafood Portifino and Mrs. Tourist likes the Chicken Parmesan the best.  My Dad loves the Eggplant Parmesan.  We don't even have to consult the menu because we've been there so often!

The national chain has several establishments in the Tampa Bay area, so consult their website below to find the one closest to you.
