In July, Arizona will begin enforcing a new law that requires law enforcement officers to check someone’s immigration status if they have reason to suspect that he or she is in the country illegally. Do you think this is a good idea?

Parks / Maximo Park in Southern Pinellas County
« on: June 23, 2010, 09:25:10 PM »
Maximo Park is a St. Petersburg City Park located on the Southern tip of Pinellas County just before you hit the Causeway on I-275 South to go over the Sunshine Skyway Bridge.  The Sunshine Skyway Bridge crosses the mouth of Tampa Bay to go into Manatee County.  Take the last exit before the Sunshine Skyway Bridge and then turn right and you'll run right into Maximo Park.

Maximo Park has many picnic areas, a boat launch, fishing and a beach.  If you look at the photos below, it was low tide, so the water was lower than normal.  Maximo Park has a play area for kids and a disk (Frisbee) golf course.

Those disk golf people are serious about it!  LOL  They have several sized disks of different weights to throw different distances and I was surprised to see them using pull carts to bring all of their stuff with them around the course.  We saw them go around twice last night, so they must have played 18 "holes."

The holes for the disks are really chain link baskets that will catch the flying disks, so it's not "real golf" if you ask me.  I've been playing golf for over 40 years, but it looked very challenging to say the least.  Perhaps I should look into it.

Golf Courses and Discounts / Silverthorn Country Club
« on: June 21, 2010, 01:07:08 PM »
We played Silverthorn Country Club last weekend and we had a great round of golf to celebrate Father's Day.  It's an excellent layout, but there were some dead spots on the greens that you wouldn't want to putt through.  Luckily they had the hole locations positioned away from those bad parts of the greens.  I played well and shot an 86 on the par 72 course, which is a normal round for me.

Silverthorn CC is located in Spring Hill, FL about 50 minutes north of the Tampa International Airport, up the Suncoast Parkway.  The Suncoast is a toll road, so bring a lot of quarters because it will cost you about $4.00 to get there and the same coming back.

General Discussion / Here's something you don't see everyday...
« on: June 18, 2010, 07:55:09 PM »
Have you seen this before?  I never did until I moved here from Ohio... not until we got into this neighborhood.  Big Lizards making more little lizards.  The eggs will hatch in a couple months and then the baby lizards look like bugs who imitate the actions of the big lizards.  They're always fun to watch.  LOL!

If you're a fan of WWE Smackdown Wrestling on TV then you'll love this!  All of the WWE Wrestlers have come through this training facility,   because it's the flagship development school for WWE.  Dozens of the WWE Superstars call the Tampa Bay area home like Edge, John Cena, Hulk Hogan, Dusty Rhodes, Brian Blair, Chris Jericho, and many guys popular in the 70's, 80's and 90's.

Each Thursday night Florida Championship Wrestling holds matches for their up and coming stars that are recorded for TV broadcast later.  The TV show is broadcast on Brighthouse cable channel 47 at 11pm Thursdays, 6pm Sundays and 11pm Weds.  Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children 10 and under.

Restaurants and Reviews / Mom's Place in Tampa
« on: June 03, 2010, 11:05:33 PM »
We have been going to Mom's Place in Tampa for the last 5 years.  If you like a good, old-fashioned Diner with booths to sit in, then you'll simply love this.  The food is great and the prices are even better!  They serve breakfast all day and if you like to sleep-in and still have breakfast then Mom's Place is for you.  They also specialize in Greek Food, so if you like that then you should definitely go there for lunch.

They do have a few limitations that you need to know about.  They close at 3pm most days, so plan on breakfast and/or lunch and that's it.  The second limitation is that they only accept cash, so bring 20 bucks or use their ATM to get the cash you need.

Today, I had breakfast and my wife had lunch.  I can eat breakfast food no matter what time it is, but I simply cannot eat lunch as my first meal of the day very often.  I know, I'm weird!  LOL!

Mom's Place is located just north of Raymond James Stadium where the Tampa Bay Buccaneers play football.  They don't have a website that I could find, so use the following link to find their address and location.,+FL&cid=8906482000994307045

Bars and Clubs / Mugs 'N Jugs
« on: May 31, 2010, 09:28:37 PM »
Mugs 'N Jugs is a sports bar that also sells food.  Each day they have a different special food item and each night they have a different event.  Events like Ladies Night, Live Bands, Karaoke, Poker, Free Wings, Dollar Drafts and the waitresses "Mugs Girls" look great.

I saw in an ad that they also have all Pay-Per-View events on their TVs like UFC and WWE.  My Dad and his friends have also been there to see Ohio State Football Games when they weren't on network TV.  LOL!

They have a location in Clearwater and another in Port Richey.  See more info on their website below.

Bars and Clubs / Bikini Bars in St. Petersburg
« on: May 30, 2010, 05:25:42 PM »
In the last several months, 4 new Bikini Bars have opened in St. Pete.  Since the women don't undress more than down to a bikini, these bars do not have the same restrictions as full nude and topless bars.  These places can serve alcohol and soon they're going to be open until 3am.  The City Council just gave their approval for that earlier this month.

I didn't see a website for these bars, so here's their names and addresses.

Club Sinn 340 First Ave. N

B2T - Bottom to the Top 1101 First Ave. N

Cafe Adagio 1111 Central Ave.

Yet-to-be-named-bar at the Mosley Motel, 401 34th St. N

Parks / Honeymoon Island State Park
« on: May 30, 2010, 04:33:56 PM »
Rather than re-writing the description I'll quote the website below.

"The pioneers called it Hog Island, but it became Honeymoon Isle in 1939 when a New York developer built 50 palm - thatched bungalows for honeymooners. Today, visitors can drive across Dunedin Causeway to enjoy the sun - drenched Gulf beaches, mangrove swamps, and tidal flats. Nature lovers will find osprey nests, a wide variety of shorebirds, and one of the few remaining virgin slash pine forests in South Florida. The park boasts several nature trails and bird observation areas. Visitors can swim, fish, and snorkel in the warm waters of the Gulf or picnic while they enjoy the beautiful scenery. Shelling is particularly good here, as the Gulf currents deposit an incredible variety of seashells on the shore. Showers are available and the park´s concession has a gift shop and snack bar. Located at the extreme west end of State Road 586."

See more details on their website below.

Parks / Caladesi Island State Park
« on: May 30, 2010, 04:27:24 PM »
I can't write a description any better than what's on their website, so here's an exact quote.

"As one of the few completely natural islands along Florida's Gulf Coast, Caladesi´s white sand beaches were rated America's Best Beach in 2008. Beach lovers can enjoy swimming, sunbathing and beachcombing. Saltwater anglers can cast a line from their boats or surf fish. Nature enthusiasts can spot wildlife while hiking the three mile nature trail through the island´s interior or paddling a three mile kayak trail through the mangroves and bay. Picnic tables and shelters are located near the beach, and picnic pavilions can be reserved for a fee. The park has a marina with electric and water hookups, as well as a snack bar and gift shop. The 661-acre park is only accessible by boat or ferry. Ferry service is provided by the Caladesi Island Ferry (727) 734-1501 and departs from Honeymoon Island State Park."

Get more details on their website below.

Osprey Bay Kayaks offer various Kayaking tours through St. Joseph Sound and the mangroves of Caladesi Island.  Prices are $50 per person and they recommend that you wear sunscreen and bring mosquito repellent.  For details, visit their website below.

Every Sunday through Labor day, two local bars are having Bikini Contests!  Wow, who knew?  LOL!

Gators Cafe and Saloon has their contest every Sunday at 6:30pm under their big tent.  Prizes are $500 for 1st, $300 for 2nd and $200 for 3rd and you must be over 21 to compete or watch.  Gators is located on Treasure Island, so view their website for all of the details.

Shepard's Beach Resort is located on Clearwater Beach (South Beach).  Their contest is a "hot body" contest with categories for both men and women.  Prizes vary each week and it's also held every Sunday from June 6th through Labor Day from 6 to 7pm.  It's for age 21 and up and more information is available on their website.
